Bugatti History

Bugatti History: The 19th Century

The 19th century brought the birth of the young Ettore Bugatti, starting from just 17 years old, he was designing innovative vehicles.

Bugatti History: The 20th Century

In 1902, Bugatti was employed by Baron de Dietrich as part of the car production technology team. Just a year later he designed his first race car with a 12.9L displacement. From then until 1909 Bugatti Bounced around before eventually founding the Molsheim Factory in France where he eventually developed the Type 10, the first Pur Sang. It had a four-cylinder engine and 1.3-liter displacement; this model was produced until 1914 and laid the foundation for many future models. From 1913-1916 the Peugeot Bébé, manufactured by Peugeot and developed by Bugatti, was one of the most popular models ever sold. During WWI, Bugatti developed several airplane engines which allowed them to produce more vehicles post-war with the funding received by the engine production.

In 1957 following Bugatti’s death and the production of a total of 7,900 Bugatti cars, the company stopped production. In 1962, the Schlumpf brothers bought 50 bugattis, and the following year Bugatti was purchased by Hispano-Suiza. After some turnover, in May 1998 Volkswagen purchased the right to Bugatti.

Bugatti History: The 21st Century

In 2000, Bugatti started bringing the EB 16/4 Veyron to motor shows, and in 2001 the production model began. Eventually, the production of Bugatti got moved to its original headquarters in France, and in September 2021 a Bugatti-Rimac venture between Bugatti, Rimac, and Porsche brought together formidable forces within the industry to design exciting features.
